The Nikon 85mm f/1.4D lens was and is still one of the best pieces of glass Nikon ever made. The sharpness, even on my D800, is still incredible.
The 9-blade aperture still makes one of the creamiest and smoothest backgrounds of any lens out there. Theoretically the new 85mm f/1.4G lens is supposed to be better. But that lens doesn’t have a manual aperture ring, meaning it’s not nearly as good for time-lapse shooting.
