Natchez Trace Parkway
Covering 444 miles from Natchez (Mississippi) to Nashville (Tennessee), the Natchez
Trace Parkway is an ancient Indian and colonial trade route. Completed in
2005, after nearly 100 years of development, the Natchez Trace Parkway will take
you through some of the prettiest country in the southern United States. The
heaviest use was by the Kaintucks, men returning to the north after floating down
the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers between 1800 and 1825. Later, the Trace
earned the name Devils Backbone, after travelers ran into trouble with bandits
and wild animals. Designated a National Scenic Byway, this road will take
you through Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee with a view unmatched by any
other road in the region.
