The tunnel blasted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937.   You have to pass through to get around Hamilton Gorge.  In 1932, Park Service engineers erected a steel suspension bridge across the Gorge, but in the winter of 1937, a massive avalanche tore the bridge from its moorings and swept its twisted wreckage down to the shores of Big Hamilton Lake. photo # ussq100_9114
