San Gorgonio Mountain
The highest peak in southern California is San Gorgonio, rising 11,502
feet above the high desert floor of the Inland Empire. A steep 7
mile trail leads up from the quiet community of Forest Falls in the San
Bernardino Wilderness and Mountains to the peak, affording views above
the smog, generated by Los Angeles, 80 miles west. By early
December, San Gorgonio usually has a blanket of snow but 2006 has
seen a mild winter thus far and afforded the opportunity for a
snow free trek up a rugged peak.
