The Nikon 180mm f2.8 is one of my favorite always carry around telephoto lenses. If nothing else, I’ll have this with me to make photos in a pinch. It’s very sharp and light.
I always have this lens in my camera bag. So often, it’s come in perfectly handy when I need a mid-distance telephoto when I don’t have my 80-400mm lens handy.
With the advent of the 70-200mm family, I venture to guess that not a lot of people own this lens any more. I call is a great sleeper lens because it’s relatively inexpensive and give me better sharpness than any of the 70-200m lenses. Granted, it doesn’t have the zoom capability but sometime zoom isn’t what it’s all about. If you don’t have the lens with you, there’s no way you’re going to get that shot. With this 180mm lens, I always have it with me, so it’s saved me in many circumstances.
