American Antarctic Expedition 2012-2013

Aaron Linsdau is working to be the first American to make the round trip from the coast to the South Pole and back in Antarctica.

Without support (no resupply).

And without aid (no kites, dogs, machines).

Antarctica has vanquished virtually all polar explorers attempting this feat of endurance. More humans have stood on the moon than have succeeded in making the arduous 1413 mile trip through the highest, driest, and coldest wilderness on Earth.

In order to do this, Aaron has to train consistently over a period of six months, doing high-intensity activities like running, biking, and dragging a tire. Towing a used chunk of rubber looks pretty foolish but it's the most effective simulation of towing a sled while cross country skiing without actually doing it.
